Salonina. Augusta, AD 254-268. Antoninianus 21mm, 3.92 g. Antioch. Struck AD circa 264-265. Draped bust right, wearing stephane, set on crescent / CERERI AVG, Ceres seated left, holding grain ears and torch. RIC V 90 var. Near Extremely Fine.

Cornelia Salonina, wife of Emperor Gallienus, held the title Augusta during one of Rome’s most chaotic periods, the Crisis of the Third Century. She appears frequently on imperial coinage, often portrayed with classical virtues such as Pietas, Concordia, and Juno Regina, reflecting her role as a stabilizing symbol of imperial dignity. Her portrait style varies widely, offering collectors a rich variety of types and inscriptions. Though little is known about her personal life, Salonina’s presence in coinage underscores her political and symbolic importance during her husband’s reign.
